Audi recently got us out to sunny Malaga to test drive the new RS4 Avant, and yes, it was the final dose of sunshine just before winter officially kicked in.
Numbers
I would start by saying that the new RS4 Avant is something special. Firstly, they’ve got rid of the V8 unit and downsized to a new 2.9 Litre Twin Turbo V6. This new engine makes 444bhp and 600Nm of torque. Impressively, this means the new car gets you from 0-60 in just 4.1 seconds. The car is limited to 155mph as usual but this can be derestricted to 174mph with the RS Dynamic Package. We have a smooth eight-speed automatic gearbox and permanent four-wheel drive which creates the signature Quattro feeling Audi drivers love. On your marks, get set, GO!
Drive Time
On the first route we took, we instantly noticed how much more playful this car is to drive then outgoing RS models. The chassis is sturdy and the car grippy enough that you’d be hard pushed to get it out of traction. With the ESP turned completely off and the car in full manual mode, you need to be going pretty quickly to get the tail out a bit but when you do, you find that the car is pleasingly well balanced and agile to manoeuvre. Of course, it maintains its Quattro feel and wont get rowdy as an M-Car or an AMG but that is the point! You have to remember, you are practically driving an all-weather super sport wagon thingy. The Audi RS4 Avant is surely a superb all-rounder and an absolute weapon off the line. The Quattro All Wheel Drive System can send up to 70 per cent of its power to the rear so anytime you want to make it a party, you most certainly can!
Oh! Malaga
The curvy mountain roads and twisted country routes of Malaga, make driving the Audi RS4 Avant an enjoyable task. With a luxurious interior made of attention to detail, the ride is not only comfortable, but practical and spacious. It’s a pleasant working environment with a perfect driving position and all of the gadgetry you would need. Wireless charging worked instantly with my iPhone X and there was USBs to charge my Sony Alpha Camera. The rear has legroom, headroom and tech too, with ambient lighting taking care of the mood. All rather impressive to say the least. I was thinking to myself. This isn’t at all a bad place to spend the afternoon.
Wrapping Things Up
As we know, Christmas is only around the corner, and without doubt, Audi have made one of the best wagons on the market with the new RS4 Avant. Its powerful, sexy, aggressive, practical and most importantly Quattro for the upcoming winter season. Take a look at more information over at Audi.
