Apollo Mustang x Special Edition Sold at Charity Event
Although this spaceship-like vehicle can not fly, its unique LED underbody lighting makes it look like it just re-entered earth’s atmosphere. Ford’s special edition Apollo Mustang pays homage to the Apollo space program, the history of space travel and the achievements for humanity involved. Inspired by NASA’s rockets, this edition features a pure white and pure black non-production paint scheme, stars and stripes stickers, carbon, Apollo logos on the chassis, while the United States lettering on the hood gives the impression of the Apollo Mustang arriving on at the launch pad. The 627hp strong Apollo Mustang is based on the 5-litre V8 Ford Mustang GT and received numerous perfomance upgrades: performance supercharger, performance package, x-pipesix-piston Brembo brakes and 21-inch performance wheels. It should at least come fairly close to rocket propulsion.
On July, 23th the Apollo Mustang has been sold at the Gathering of Eagles as a special and limited edition for a staggering $230,000. In total, $2.2 million were raised at this charity event and the proceeds will be donated to the Experimental Aircraft Assocation’s (EAA) youth aviation education programs. One of the highlights was definitely the presence of many Apollo 13 crew members and captain Jim Lovell, who spoke and shared his memories of this historical mission at the event.
