The new Audi S5 Cabrio is lighter, faster and up to 40% stiffer then the previous model. The roof now drops in a brisk 15 seconds up to speeds of 31mph. The car will move from 0-60 in just 5.1 seconds putting out 349bhp and 500nm of torque. Impressive stats, but what else has changed?
The most marvellous thing about the new Audi S5 Cabrio is the driving experience itself. The open top gives you access to a glorious sound. Driving this car drop top in sports mode is where it feels most right. The exhaust note, which now comes with angry pops and crackles, will entertain and ensure an enjoyable ride. The body feels firm and is definitely stiffer then before. As the 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 powers through its dual clutch transmission, you get fairly quick shifts and decent performance all around. The Quattro system has you safeguarded in all weather scenarios and the Audi has been very generous with the interior equipment.
During our trip we were able to see some of the glorious parts of Spain, such as Cadiz in the Andalusia region, where we explored some fantastic driving routes and scenery. The good weather and roads ensured we really were able to get the most out of what the new Audi S5 Cabrio had to offer.
There are some nice refinements to the exterior design, which make the car look even more muscular and aggressive but still beautiful. At the rear, longer, sleeker tail lights take attention and the polished rear exhausts look great. We also have a subtle spoiler hanging over the trunk, further highlighting the sportiness and character. Moving to the rear arches they are slightly more flared and dramatic, whilst even at the front the “power dome” look on the hood resembles muscularity and stance.
Driving through intense landscapes and vast mountainous valleys, you feel the S5 Cabrio come into its own environment. I’m not too sure about this car in gloomy weather, but put it out in the sunshine on some good roads and it feels pleasurable to say the least. The drive is refined and invigorating enough to enjoy time and time again and the added performance just gives it the advantage over the usual A5 Cabrio.
The S5 Cabrio interior is signature Audi, with great minimalist design and plenty of tech. The seats are comfortable, with ample space in the rear too. When it comes to options on tech, the sky is the limit. We have everything available from Virtual Cockpit to Ambient Lighting and NMI Navigation Plus. Audi Connect with 8.3” Monitor is also available with Wifi Hotspot and of course the Bang & Olufsen sound system.
