The Car of the Future: The BMW Vision Next 100
Celebrating its 100 anniversary, BMW revealed a stunning vision of the next 100 years to come. The 4,9 meters long BMW Vision Next 100 will be able to drive autonomously and be available in the next 20 – 30 years.
Even though BMW has not given away any details about the engine, the BMW Vision Next 100 will have quite a few promising features. The windshield will function as a giant head-up display, providing useful information about you environment and projecting hidden hazards into your field of view. “Alive Geometry” describes the almost 800 moving triangles which are set into the instrument panel and other areas of the side panels. Acting like an elastic skin, Alive Geometry will directly communicate and warn you through its movement. Combined with the head-up display even small movements predict an imminent real-time event in the form of preconscious communication.
Being the driver, you can choose between various modes of operation. For example the Boost mode, in which you are driving and the car is subtlely and intuitively assisting you, or the Ease mode, in which steering quadrant folds away and you can sit back and let the vehicle drive autonomously.
While enormous wing doors will automatically open for easier entry as soon as you appraoch the car, the grille will be equipped with sensors and cameras for autonomous parking.
“If you can imagine the future, you’ve made the first step,” says automobile designer Adrian van Hooydonk.
